Barn News - FALL - 2008
Welcome to the fall issue of Livery Training Stables newsletter. The summer brought horse show competition, new students, horses and exciting activities. Although we experienced hotter days than usual this year, everyone seemed to have a great summer.
Around The Barn
- Tony Fischer is the proud owner of Monarch, a gelding he had been leasing for the past year. Congratulations Tony.
- After the Pinto World Show, Carrie Fraim and her family and their horses moved to California where they are living in the Ventura Area. We will miss them.
- Congratulations to Rebecca Sanford, Splash's mom, who is engaged to be married in November. (No, Splash is not in the wedding. She doesn't have a thing to wear!)
- Jenna and her family have gone to Florence , Italy for a year. We are sure she will find horses to ride while she is there.
- Welcome to Glen Grinstead's children Hayden and Abby, five and almost four years old respectively. They will keep Mario in shape till Jenna gets back.
- We would like to also welcome Stephanie Frilling and her family. She owns Mandolyn, a 4 year old Haflinger mare (Mandy). She also just bought a three-year old gelding named Nigel, whom she rescued and is nursing back to health. Stephanie is riding Mandy and taking lessons, and Mandy has joined “charm school” (or something like that) and is learning her manners from the “school marm”! Stephanie also brought her twin 4 ½ year old daughters over to meet and ride, who else, but Mario.
Jumper News
- Kathy reports that she and Grania participated in several H/J shows this summer. Top of the list was the Estes Part, Colorado H/J Festival. What a beautiful place to show. Kind of vacation-like in a horse show sort of way. “Considering the competition among 30 horses in the jumper classes, I think we held our own in this new venue. Of the six classes, we placed 8th in four classes and 6th in one class. We were double clear in all but one class! A big thanks to Jenny Paisley for coaching me.”
- The N.M.H.J.A. Beach Party show with a different table (rules) for the classes posed another challenge. This time we had to match an optimum time. Two seconds off the optimum time, Kathy and Grania placed 3 rd in that class. At the State Fair H/J show, Grania placed 1 st and 3 rd with yet another table. Getting some experience I would say!
- Kathy and Grania exhibited in the 20 th Annual Equestrian Cup competition where they placed 6 th out of 30 riders in the Speed Class.
- Sam Tarter (affectionately now called airborne) is working with her chestnut mare, Summer, and is consistently jumping 2'9”. She brings Poquita, her young pinto horse, to lessons to take notes.
State Fair Paint and Pinto Shows
The Pinto/Paint contingent of Livery Training Stables showed up at the State Fair and swept the field. We showed under two judges both days, which allowed us to get a good number of national points.

She and Spot just keep getting better and better.
Reflections from Kathy
A really good showing for Livery, you might say. In reflecting on the State Fair, aside from too many Lamb burgers, I would like to share one funny thing that happened. I was standing at the fair on the third straight day numbed by the noise of the goats and the sheep and the cows and the people and the dust. From inside the arena I hear the familiar, pleasant voice of Val Cole on the microphone, “Back your horses, please back.” I had to laugh because as the horses obediently backed to their rider's cue on the inside of the arena, on the outside of the arena I hear the familiar sound … beep, beep, beep, beep right in time with the horses, as the tractor backed up also! I had to giggle. Thank you, God, for our success and that bright spot in my day. He has a sense of humor and it truly helped me make it through that very long day.
Thanks for a great year, guys!!
Keep those pics and news coming!
